Dear Rose # 58- Craving the Sky: Finding True Contentment at Home
Rose is an amalgam of us - women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond who are looking for somewhere they are seen, heard and listened to.
Dear Rose,
A few years ago, I treated myself to three weeks in Bali—a week either side of my retreat just for me. When there were three days until the end, I did everything I could to get home. I was desperately homesick.
People thought I was being a bit of a brat. Why did I want to leave paradise? I definitely missed Sara and Barney, but once I got home, I finally realised what else I was craving: the sky. I missed being able to look up and see forever. It’s surprisingly hard to see the sky in Bali.
Some of my most profound, contented, heartfelt moments have been spent looking at the sky: watching the binalup - the first light- from my living room window in Sara’s cottage, seeing pink skies in the evening at Emu Point, or feeling the warmth of a blue-sky day on a bench in a beer garden in a pub in Sydney.
So when I saw a friend today and she said, ”I just read your last letter and I want to offer you clouds,” my heart swelled once again.
Love, Em xx
