Dear Rose # 41 - Loving-Kindness and the Complexity of Grief | Mother's Day Reflections

Rose is an amalgam of us - women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond who are looking for somewhere they are seen, heard and listened to.

Dear Rose,

I was moved to tears three times during loving-kindness meditation tonight at yoga (and yes, I’m a Cancer rising, so I feel things deeply).

The first time was right at the start. I’d dimmed the lights for the students’ comfort, leaving the room lit only by a warm floor lamp. They truly looked so beautiful lying in Savasana, bathed in golden light. That started the lump in my throat and the misty eyes.

The second time was when I thought of Donald Trump while we were wishing a "tricky person" loving-kindness. The tears came because I really didn’t want to wish him loving-kindness, and it made me sad that there’s someone in the world I feel that way about.

The last time was when we were wishing ourselves loving-kindness. As I said the words, “May I be loved,” I thought of my darling Barney and how this would be the first Mother’s Day in 12 years that I wouldn’t be his mum.

I loved being his mum.

Love, Em xx
