Dear Rose # 35 - The Mind of a Yogi: What Really Happens During Restorative Practice

Rose is an amalgam of us - women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond who are looking for somewhere they are seen, heard and listened to.

Dear Rose,

It’s been a while, but I finally attended a yoga class without teaching. It was wonderful—I can see why people do it! ☺️

It was a restorative practice, so there was plenty of time to think. I thought it would be fun to be present with my thoughts and document exactly what goes through someone’s brain while engaging in a mindfulness practice. Here goes:

• I know I’m not the only person with a large belly who does yoga, but sometimes it feels like it.

• Gosh, my body is definitely still healing from the pneumonia. My limbs feel so heavy— and when did Cat-Cow ever make me breathless?

• Oh my god, I’m crying. All of a sudden, I’m feeling profound grief for my friend. I can see her and Barney together in bed with a book, and I wish I could sit with them again.

• Why did my work colleague have to point out my mistake? It wasn't a big deal, but now I feel like shit.

• Don’t fall asleep and snore.

• Why do people have to drive such loud cars?

• Fucking knee.

• Ah… this is bliss.

All sounds pretty normal, right?

Love, Em xx
