Self-Care Experiment #7 - Mini yoga, big lessons

As a yoga teacher, you might think I spend my mornings gracefully gliding into sun salutations. Spoiler: I don’t.

The only time I’d touched my mat in the last month was to take it from one house to the next while I moved. Honestly, it felt symbolic—like I’d packed away my practice (and a bit of myself) in the chaos of moving and not teaching.

So this week, I set myself a mini challenge: a few minutes of yoga every day. That’s it.

What followed was a messy, revealing, surprisingly powerful journey—and I recorded it all for this week’s audio episode.

No time to listen? Here’s a little taste of what I learned...

Tiny Still Counts

Some days I did 15 minutes. Some days, three breaths and a shoulder roll. But every practice mattered.
Presence > perfection. Always.

The Space You’re In Matters

I don’t have room for a full mat in my bedroom. I felt awkward practicing around my mum. It made me think about my students—especially in our squishier spaces like King River.
Do we all feel safe taking up space?

My Body Said “No”

A gut-health practice left me feeling worse. But the real yoga? Noticing that. Listening to my body without judgement. Even that was practice.

Permission to Be Messy

One night, I did one long downward dog and called it a day. And it was enough.

Yoga never asked me to be perfect. It just asked me to show up.

The Wrap-Up

Was it worth it? Yes. I reconnected with my practice and my body.
Would I recommend it? Yep. Just don’t overthink it. One pose. One breath. Start there.

As always—go gently. And if you decide to have a try, tell me about it in the comments.
